Current students and independent study members looking for instruction on a specific skill, such as throwing larger or more complex forms, can opt for a Current Student Advancement Lesson.
What can I expect from a Private Lesson?
Our Early Bird and Traditional lessons are two hours long. Your instructor will greet you when you arrive at the studio, and give you a throwing demonstration. You may make as many pieces as you like within the lesson, and at the end you choose 3 pieces per person to keep. You may choose a glaze for your pieces (all three will be glazed in the same color). Your pieces will be trimmed and glazed by Indigo Fire staff - it takes one month to complete. Guests may pick up their finished pottery one month from the date of the lesson. Indigo Fire stores pottery for three months from the date of the lesson. After three months, your pottery may be removed from the studio! Participants must be 10+ years old. We use our studio reclaim stoneware for private lessons which is a nice, plastic clay body that fires to a light brown color and has some speckles.​ If you’re interested in booking a lesson for more than 3 participants check out our private events page!
Traditional Private Lesson
This is our tried and true private lesson offering. Dedicated time with one of our excellent teachers to focus on the clay and throwing techniques most valuable to your learning journey. Lessons are available throughout the week from 10-6 PM, depending on teacher availability.
Private Lessons cost $160 + $85 per additional person and run for 2 hours. They take place at our Watertown location and are intended for ages 10+.

Robert Boyer
Robert has been teaching private lessons, workshops, and multi week classes for many years at Indigo. He has a great eye for detail, and broad knowledge of thrown forms. A great choice for a beginner or an established potter working on a specific skill!
Sara Jacobson
Sara J finds inspiration in nature and her surroundings, and has a deep appreciation for the small things- that means kiddos too! A long-time preschool teacher, she now instructs people of all ages in throwing and handbuilding projects.
Talia Shabanian
Talia's pottery journey started in her high school ceramics class. She believes in learning through repetition and finds joy in helping others build confidence on the wheel. Outside the studio, Talia is a middle school teacher and brings her teaching instincts into her pottery practice.
Sarah Carroll
Sarah Carroll has decades of experience in making and teaching. Her skills shine most in thrown and altered pieces, and is a great handbuilding instructor.
Maddie Gage
Maddie has been working in ceramics for 9 years, starting in her 9th-grade introduction to ceramics class. She fell in love with clay and graduated from Syracuse University in 2024, where she developed her art-making practice and received her BFA in Studio Arts. She is primarily a potter with a love for lively pots and intricate surface decoration that can bring joy into people's homes and lives.
